The Creators of FemCal on the iPhone
Announce a "NEW PRODUCT"

Jonathan and Meredith are pleased to announce the FemCal-assisted conception and successful birth of Baby Islay1.

Despite much trying, it was a solid two years after discontinuing birth control before conception and the first ultrasound. During this time, someone recommended that Meredith follow F.A.M. (Fertility Awareness Method), and use this technique to get pregnant.

Launch of iPhone and Writing FemCal

Luckily, around this time, Apple launched the iPhone, and we created a FAM app to help Meredith track her cycles. Well, it took a while, but the FemCal calendar of the happy conception is shown here2:

Meredith tracked her cycles, entering data daily into FemCal, and printing out one or more PDFs for consultations with her fertility specialist.

The calendar doesn't show any temperature rises since temperatures weren't being logged for this month. Peak cervical fluid occurred on the 16th. Intercourse occurred within 48 hours prior to ovulation, and after two years, a pregnancy was finally achieved. Note the pregnancy test results in the calendar on the 28th and 29th.

FemCal uses the FAM heuristics to highlight fertility and help estimate when ovulation will take place. The key aspects are basal body temperature and cervical fluid consistency.

The First Ultrasound

This ultrasound was the first medical confirmation of pregnancy. The embryo is implanted on the front-side of the uterus, but that's another story...

1Apple-ized alternate name "iSlay" may be taken as a Buffy reference.
